Debt Protection: Protecting You
Applying for a loan involves a variety of questions that are as much about your family and your life as about your finances. One question to ask is what would you do if you suddenly had a life changing event that impacted your bottom line?
Unexpected events happen, and they are exactly that – unexpected – but you can plan for how unemployment or illness will impact your family and your finances by considering adding Debt Protection to your loan. Debt Protection covers a variety of impacting events that we all hope never happen, but can be managed by planning for such unexpected repercussions. Since adding it to a loan is voluntary, it won’t affect your loan approval.
Start a conversation today with your loan officers about Debt Protection. It’s easy to apply, and you’ll find yourself more prepared for the parts of life for which we cannot always be prepared. It’s one of the ways Dakota West wants your relationship with us to be as much about caring for you and your family as well as your finances.
It’s graduation season across the country and whether high school or college, commencement addresses are doling out heaps of advice that may be applicable to more than just graduates. In a recent commencement address this season, I heard a speaker offer this suggestion to young college graduates, “Some things are best left to the professionals; for everything else, there are YouTube tutorials. The key to adulting is knowing the difference.”
Case and point: buying a new home. Yes, people buy and sell homes every day. For many, home ownership stands as a fundamental part of the American Dream. But if you are starting the home buying process for the first time, you can search the Internet and find plenty of good advice, but asking a professional to walk you through the process makes a world of difference.
At Dakota West Credit Union, our loan officers do far more than provide financing. They offer guidance, suggestions, recommendations, and a live source of information. In its most simple form, there are roughly eight steps in the home buying process which take you from dreaming of a home to owning a home. Each step, though, involves a fair measure of hustle, new terminology, and understanding of the process.
All those graduates certainly would never be moving their tassels across their mortarboards if it were not for the faculty, the professors, and the academic professionals who guided them through their education. Come discover your own home loan instructor at Dakota West Credit Union to guide you through the steps of owning your own home and to help you move onward and upward.
Remembering All Those Numbers
Do you know your member number? In a modern world of speed dial and smart phones, we sometimes don’t even remember important phone numbers, much less the details of each account we manage. Many of our members do know their member numbers, though, and some members have more than one. It’s less likely you know your account numbers, since they include numbers, letters, dots, and yes, your member number. It can be tough to keep track of them all.
As we continue to prepare for our upcoming Core Conversion, we recognize one of the most significant changes will be the transition to just one member number for each member – you’re oldest member number will now be your only member number. Since member numbers are part of the account numbers, those members who happen to keep close track of their account numbers are going to want to know more. We don’t blame you – we want you to know more, too.
To understand these account number changes, we created an Account Number guide to translate your current account numbers to your new account numbers. Of course, we’ll always be able to access your information by your member number, but most importantly, at Dakota West Credit Union, we’ll always know you by your name.
If you are a joint account owner without your own member number, we want to remind you that for security purposes, we require that each individual accessing our online system have his or her own separate username and password. Learn more about how to obtain your unique logon from your local branch.
At Dakota West Credit Union, our new core will bring our members into the latest technological age, and enable you to benefit from streamlined processes, improved security, and one of the most up-to-date systems available. We’ll keep track of all those numbers, and allow you to remember that we are here to serve you.
