Co-Op Shared Branch Network recently shared instances in Michigan of reported fraudsters impersonating members and attempting to change personal information on member accounts to gain access to personal information and online accounts. Securing your personal information requires vigilance by Dakota West and its members. 45% of fraud victims detect the activity themselves.
At Dakota West, we already take steps to ensure requests to change personal information come directly from our members. To update your personal information (address, phone number, email address) members need to visit a branch in person, complete DocuSign verification sent to the email on the account, or log in to your online access to authenticate your identify through the three-tiered verification system.
Members should also be alert to scams that attempt to obtain personal information from you via text or phone. When Dakota West sends alerts regarding potentially fraudulent activity on your account, we do not include requests for your personal information, such as card numbers, PINs, CVV codes, or expiration dates. To learn what types of messages our members can expect from us, please review our Debit and Credit Card Security Services information.
As a best practice, if ever you question if someone identifying themselves as being associated with your credit union or financial institution by email, text, or phone, call Dakota West directly at 800.411.7590. Do not click on email links to websites or to phone numbers within emails or text messages. Never share personal information about yourself or your accounts. We continue to do all we can to protect you and your information, and want to make sure you are equipped to protect yourself, too.
We Made Miracles
Thanks to everyone who reached into their hearts (and their wallets) and helped us make miracles for the Children’s Miracle Network Hospital in North Dakota: Sanford Children’s Hospital in Fargo. Thanks to the generosity of our members, we sent nearly $2,000 to help children looking for a miracle, or just a chance to live a healthy childhood.
We thank Co-Op Shared Branch Network for their support of our CMN campaign, including our Miracle Jeans Days celebrated at all our branches on International Credit Union Day. With a $5.00 contribution, our employees dressed down while lifting up our communities. Thanks to everyone who contributed. We really do succeed together.
Making Miracles Happen
If you think miracles don’t happen often enough, then this is your chance to help make miracles happen.
At Dakota West Credit Union we are determined to make miracles happen in our backyard. From now until October 17, all eight branches are accepting donations to the Children’s Miracle Network with our contributions going to our regional CMN hospital: Sanford Children’s Hospital in Fargo.
Your generosity to our regional CMN hospital help provide care for all children, regardless of illness, injury, or a family's ability to pay. Donations also helps provided needed equipment, community outreach programs, and medical research.
As our members know, we are a Co-Op Shared Branching credit union, but you may not have known that Co-Op Shared Branch Network is a national sponsor of the Children’s Miracle Network. How fortunate we are to be affiliated with the second largest branch network in the United States, and how fortunate the kids needing extra TLC at Sanford Children’s Hospital will be thanks to your help in making miracles happen for them.
On the final day of our campaign, stop into one of our branches – we will be wearing our “miracle jeans” in support of Children’s Miracle Network. Each Dakota West employee sporting their favorite denim is making a donation to the CMN. Join us for Miracle Jeans Day on Thursday, October 17, which also happens to be International Credit Union Day. What better way to show how credit unions make miracles in our communities!
We believe that miracles really do happen. Dakota West staff and members have the jeans to prove it.
